If your leaves are so dense you can't reach the foam - or if the flower insertions push the leaves awkwardly to the side exposing the raquette, you may have to cut small slits into the broad leaves in order to insert the shorter of the flowers.
An example is the direct center of this spray design where the dark carnation was placed.
I gently pierced the Monstera leaf with the point of my knife.
This left a tiny slit in the waxy leaf.
I then cut a sharp angle at the bottom of my carnation stem and gently inserted it into the slit in the leaf.
