Florist clay is an essential tool for every florist shop.  We use it for everything under the sun.  It clings tightly to glass (if dry when applied) and holds even under water.

I first take care to dry the outside of my cylinder container before placing it inside the foil covered cardboard box.

You can place a flattened piece of florist clay on the bottom of the glass and press down firmly once the glass is in place.  This way it won't move around.

I want to seal the gap between the glass and the inner part of the cardboard tube.

Although the cylinder glass fits pretty well, it certainly isn't a tight fit and water could go down between the two and weaken and degrade the box.

I'm going to use a strip of my florist clay to seal that opening so all water put into the vase goes inside where it belongs.

I lightly place the tacky florist clay into place, and then pat it down firmly so it is a snug fit.  Now that glass isn't going to move and the water should always be channeled inside the container where it belongs.
